Advanced Certificate IV in Theological Studies

The “Advanced Certificate in Theological Studies” or “Certificate IV” requires a 5,000 – 10,000 word essay on an approved topic of choice or one of your own after the completion of Certificates II and III.

As part of your coursework, you are required to select a topic for your essay from the list provided. Each topic is designed to challenge your understanding and encourage critical thinking about theological concepts and their applications in our daily lives. Please take your time to consider each option carefully before making your selection. Two samples are given below:

  • If Christ is the central focus of our lives, how should this affect the way we live on a day-to-day basis? This question invites you to explore the implications of placing Christ at the heart of your existence. Consider how this centrality influences your decisions, relationships, and moral framework. Reflect on practical examples where a Christ-centred perspective has transformed behaviours or attitudes in everyday situations. This topic encourages an introspective look at the integration of faith into the fabric of daily life.
  • Discuss some of the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah and what they tell us about God’s plan for salvation. This exploration requires a careful examination of prophetic texts and their fulfilment in the New Testament. Consider how these prophecies shape our understanding of God's redemptive plan through Christ. Analyse specific examples and discuss their significance in the broader narrative of Scripture and the teachings of the Church. Your essay should reflect on the continuity between the Old and New Testaments in revealing God's intention for humanity.
